G-Hockey
"Ordinary what is normal, special what must be special."
G-hockey is intended for children and young people aged 6 to 18 who are not wheelchair-dependent, have an intellectual disability, are autistic, or who cannot keep up during regular training.
The motto at G-hockey is: 'ordinary what is possible, special what must be special'.
The goal of G-hockey is to teach basic hockey skills through play and potentially play matches and tournaments within the club or regionally. The emphasis is on enjoyment of the game and confidence in one's abilities and potential, not on limitations. The rules, techniques, and tactics of regular hockey are used as a starting point. These are adapted, if necessary, to the individual abilities and needs of the players. Furthermore, everything is focused on allowing players to enjoy the sport within their capabilities and to involve them as much as possible in the many activities organized by MHC De Reigers: Reigers Day, hockey clinics, team outings, etc.
What does a training look like?
The training sessions have a clear structure. Players (and their parents, if applicable) should arrive 10 minutes before the start time to allow time for any additional information.
The players will first warm up (briefly without a ball or stick). Then, they will be divided into groups of 1 to 3 players per coach, and they will alternate technical exercises like pushing and hitting with exercises involving running with the ball. At the end of the training session, the players will play a game, sometimes with knot hockey sticks, which have a soft foam base.
After the lesson, everyone cleans up together and the training ends with a glass of lemonade in the clubhouse.
By whom?
The training is provided under the supervision of an experienced head coach by players from various senior teams and, if necessary, assisted by assistant coaches.
A coordinator is present at each training session to speak with parents and share any information or concerns with the trainers. After each session, there's an opportunity to share information and evaluate how the training and guidance went, and identify areas for improvement.
When?
Training takes place every Sunday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 am on field 1 at the MHC De Reigers sports complex in Hoofddorp.
Competition
New G-hockey members will initially be offered training sessions to learn the basic skills of hockey. When players are ready, they can play competitive matches in the region. Matches are supervised by coaches, training supervisors, and parents. Rules and information for supervisors can be found on the KNHB website. The G-hockey players at MHC De Reigers play six-a-side hockey.
Membership
Interested players can participate in two trial training sessions without obligation. A hockey stick and shin guards are provided. You must provide your own mouthguard, sportswear, and sneakers. Registration for a trial lesson must be done through the website via "trial training" to ensure the player is insured during the trial lessons. In the comments section, please clearly indicate that this concerns G-hockey. The G-hockey line coordinator will then contact you to schedule the trial lessons.
After these trial lessons, we will discuss with the parents whether membership is sensible, feasible, and enjoyable. Each member will complete a registration form detailing medical information (e.g., epilepsy), any motor impairments (e.g., muscle weakness), their level of development, and any communication issues (e.g., hearing loss). The coaches can then take this information into account. To become a definite member, the signed registration form must be submitted to the G-hockey line coordinator or handed in at the bar in our clubhouse.
The contribution is determined annually and is stated on the Contribution page.
