Sportsmanship & Respect

Commission

The Mixed Hockey Club "De Reigers" highly values sportsmanship and respect for everyone, both by its members and coaches, during and around matches and other club activities. This is in the interest of a fair and competitive atmosphere, as well as promoting results, the club's image, and the well-being of its members.

To achieve this objective, "De Reigers" has established a Sportsmanship & Respect Committee. This committee will: - advise the board, and - act on its behalf.

Activities

The Sportsmanship & Respect Committee carries out its duties when there is

1. Conduct that violates the club and/or KNHB statutes and regulations. This includes:

  • The registration of yellow and/or red cards issued to players, coaches, and other (official) supervisors of "De Reigers," as well as the administrative processing thereof and any resulting suspensions to the KNHB.
  • The assessment and punishment of members and/or supervisors of "De Reigers" in the event of a red card, this separately from and as much as possible in advance of the disciplinary procedure as followed by the KNHB.
  • The committee investigates the actions and circumstances that led to the red card.
  • The committee recommends that the board of "De Reigers" punish the player(s), coach(es), or supervisor(s) involved. It should be noted that the imposed penalty is binding and does not replace the penalty imposed by the KNHB (Royal Dutch Hockey Association), unless the board decides otherwise.

2. Behavior that violates the values and standards that, in the opinion of the association's board, apply within the association, on and around the fields of anyone involved with "De Reigers" in any way, both members and non-members.

Powers

In exceptional cases of alleged misconduct, the committee's authority may, at the committee's discretion, be extended by the board of "De Reigers".

The committee will then act according to the same principles and procedures as described in these regulations.

Current Composition

Wilco Hoekstra (chairman), Tim Meijer, Ernst Gelderman.

Assignment

If the KNHB or another hockey club approaches the board or committee to handle a complaint about "De Reigers" or (one of) its members, the board will first decide whether it wishes to involve the committee.

The committee is independent in its advice to the board and operates independently. It can, if requested, provide the board with an account of the main points, and in that case, the board will only assess whether the committee could reasonably have reached its decision.

The committee is free to recommend the punishment it deems necessary.
